Out on the WestCoast, there’s been a lot of buzz about San Francisco-based Cheetah (gocheetah.com). It’s a downloadable e-commerce platform that started out making deliveries to independent restaurants. But with pandemic- driven need among consumers, it has added home delivery.
From its app, Cheetah sells groceries to households at wholesale prices, and is doing so well that there are plans to expand into the Dallas market next year. Now past the start-up phase (it was founded in 2015), Cheetah closed on $36 million Series B financing in April. You can find it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Founder Na’ama Moran says her company also sells to grocery stores, senior centers and community organizations. It has a charity arm, the #foodgiving movement, stocking mobile fridges for those in need at no cost.
By cutting out brokers and intermediaries, she explains, Cheetah is able to offer access to bulk supplies at wholesale prices – even beating Costco on price. Suppliers run the gamut from Tyson and Nestlé to local farmers and small manufacturers. But no, Cheetah is not Costco. Maybe, as Moran says, it’s “Costco on wheels.”
