The newest industry benchmarking survey from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Fleet Advantage reveals industry execs are expediting plans to deploy alternate fuel trucks. Four in 10 said they expect to add alternate fuel trucks to their fleet within the next one to two years; last year, the majority (54%) said they wouldn’t add alternate fuel vehicles for five to 10 years. Two-thirds of respondents to this year’s survey reported plans to deploy battery electric trucks compared to only 3% in 2021.
The survey also highlighted trends in equipment financing, with 42% of this year’s respondents leasing trucks, up from 31% last year and just 14% two years ago. Maintenance and repair remains top-of-mind, with 74% of fleet executives conducting maintenance in-house versus 63% a year ago.
The majority of respondents (59%) also indicated they are operating their trucks five years or less before replacing them, which coincides with greater corporate focus on ESG
