As Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant shifts to a more localized fulfillment model, it will shutter three large online grocery distribution centers, including an 80,000-square-foot facility in Manassas, Va., that just opened in May. The other two fulfillment centers slated for closure are located in Hanover, Md., and Milford, Del.
The 165-store supermarket chain told a local news outlet that grocery delivery remains an important part of its omnichannel growth strategy. But in a letter to employees, the company said it would end its central fulfillment operation Giant Delivers on or after Oct. 21.
