The newest monthly report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reveals that trucking job losses in February were the third largest one-month drop in the last decade. In figures released last month, the BLS reports the truck transportation sector lost 8,500 jobs in February, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to just under 1.6 million. It was only the third month since the start of the pandemic that truck transportation jobs declined (though February’s losses were the highest, by far). Every other month saw the number of jobs grow.
The BLS report also noted a drop in warehouse jobs. Although the sector lost 5,500 jobs from January to February — and 30,900 from a recent high in June 2022 — it’s still up 335,000 jobs (to 1,929,400) from two years ago.
