ASUN ROMERO
DIRECTOR OF SUPPLY MANAGEMENT, SUPERIOR FOODS
A native of Spain, Romero started working at Superior Foods two weeks after arriving in the United States. Thirty-one years later, she’s still at it, having built a strong reputation within the international frozen food community. As one of her colleagues put it, “If there’s one woman on the planet who understands the frozen food supply chain…Asun is it!”
Romero has helped build frozen fruit and vegetable processing capacity in key regions around the world and takes great pride in the many successful partnerships she and her team have created. But she’s particularly gratified by the education programs Superior Foods sponsors in the Guatemalan community where one of its plants is located. “We are connecting world food markets to global supply for the benefit of everyone involved, so giving back must be part of the equation.”
She adds, “I’ve seen a huge shift in our industry in the last 30 years, when I was often the only woman in the room. But employers have realized that women are good at finding solutions and making wise decisions with a spirit of cooperation in mind.”
