FOOD-AT-HOME INFLATION EASING

The food-at-home index rose by 0.2% in December vs. November, according to Consumer Price Index data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s the lowest month-to-month increase since March of 2021, and it puts us at 11.8% for all of 2022 vs. 2021. (We’d hit a 43-year high of 13.5% last August.) The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs increased 1.0% in December, as the index for eggs rose 11.1%. The index for other food at home rose 0.4% during the month. In contrast, the index for dairy and related products decreased 0.3% in December. But let’s take a closer look at eggs…
