TOP FROZEN

During the 12 weeks ended June 12, sales of frozen foods in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined topped $17.09 billion, a 7.3% increase compared with the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales tumbled 5.7% to 3.65 billion.

For the 52 weeks ended June 12, dollar sales jumped 5.1% to $72.05 billion while units fell 3.5% to 16.35 billion.

Our chart shows the top frozen subcategories, including the leading brands, for the 12 weeks ended June 12. Note that, instead of reporting sales for multiple individual brands and line extensions that fall under the same parent brand, IRI is now combining them into a single “brand franchise.”

 

 

TOP REFRIGERATED

Sales of refrigerated foods in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined hit $30.52 billion during the 12 weeks ended June 12, up 10.9% versus the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales fell 3.1% to 7.96 billion.

For the 52 weeks ended June 12, dollar sales shot up 6.3% to $128.84 billion while units dropped 2.2% to 35.87 billion.
