MID-TIER FROZEN
During the 12 weeks ended May 15, sales of frozen foods in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined hit $16.90 billion, a 6.7% increase compared with the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales tumbled 5.5% to 3.67 billion.
For the 52 weeks ended May 15, dollar sales jumped 4.2% to $71.59 billion while units fell 3.3% to 16.43 billion.

Note that, instead of reporting sales for multiple individual brands that fall under a larger parent brand, IRI is now combining them into a single “brand franchise.”

Sales of refrigerated foods in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined topped $30.03 billion during the 12 weeks ended May 15, up 9.9% versus the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales fell 2.6% to 7.99 billion.
For the 52 weeks ended May 15, dollar sales shot up 5.3% to $127.72 billion while units dropped 2.1% to 35.96 billion.
