Dallas-based commercial real estate developer Barber Partners announced last month that it will team up with Boston-based Bain Capital to build up to 15 state-of-the-art, Class A cold storage warehouse facilities in high-demand markets around the country under the new Chill Storage banner.
Construction on the first project, a 302,400-square-foot freezer/cooler facility on 34 acres in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area, is expected to begin this summer. The building will feature a 50-foot clear height, allowing the latest racking technology and systems.
“There is no question that there is an enormous need for new, modern cold storage facilities,” says Barber Partners chairman Patrick Barber, citing a rise in consumption of frozen meals that began even before COVID.
