Fastest Frozen:

Sales of frozen products in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined hit $16.01 billion during the 12 weeks ended Dec. 26, up 4.8% compared with the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales tumbled 3.4% to 3.72 billion.

For the 52 weeks ended Dec. 26, dollar sales rose 0.9% to $69.87 billion while unit sales fell 3.2% to 16.74 billion.

Our chart shows the fastest-growing frozen subcategories, including the leading national brands, for the 12 weeks ended Dec. 26. Note that, instead of reporting sales for multiple individual brands and line extensions that fall under a larger parent brand, IRI is now combining them into a comprehensive “brand franchise.” 

Only subcategories with at least $1 million in sales during the period are listed. Brand franchises with less than $250,000 in sales are not included.

Fastest Refrigerated:

During the 12 weeks ended Dec. 26, sales of refrigerated products in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchants, military commissaries and select club and dollar stores combined topped $30.22 billion, a 5.2% increase versus the same period a year ago, reports Chicago-based market research firm IRI (iriworldwide.com). However, unit sales fell 1.9% to 8.59 billion.

For the 52 weeks ended Dec. 26, dollar sales climbed 1.3% to $123.76 billion while units tumbled 2.8% to 36.36 billion.
