Irvine, Calif.-based Before the Butcher expands its meatless protein lineup with frozen plant-based burgers for budget-minded shoppers. With a $10.99 SRP, new Mainstream Plant-Based Patties (eatmainstream.com) sell for about half the price of competitive products sold via the fresh meat case. Like the company’s UNCUT offering, Mainstream burgers are made from a proprietary blend of soy, coconut and canola oils but offer taste and texture similar to beef burgers. Plus, each gluten-free, vegan patty delivers 18 grams of plant-based protein. Packed eight to a case, each 2-pound box contains eight 4-ounce patties. The product is also available in foodservice quantities.
