Planterra Foods, Lafayette, Colo., debuts a new plant-based meat alternative made with a proprietary blend of iron-rich pea and rice protein fermented by shiitake mushrooms (for easy digestibility). Offered under the new OZO brand (, the soy-free, non-GMO collection includes Burgers, Ground, Mexican-Seasoned Ground and Italian-Style Meatballs, all excellent sources of protein (up to 22 grams per serving). The cholesterol-free products contain less fat and saturated fat and fewer calories than 80% lean ground beef as well as the leading plant-based proteins currently on the market, according to the company. The Burgers are offered in 8-ounce packages (eight to a case) while the Grounds and Meatballs come in 12-ounce packages (six to a case). SRP is $5.99 to $7.99.
