The Blackstone Group, the New York-based multinational, has made a $3 billion bid for Atlanta-based Americold and its 165 warehouses. Americold wants more, and some observers believe a public offering may be in the cards later this year.
Americold, the world’s largest refrigerated warehouse company, has been on the block since May. It’s been through some rocky years earlier in the decade, but more recently it’s picked up Walmart and Target as customers.
Another potential suitor could be KKR & Co., an investor in Lineage Logistics. China Investment Corp., which recently acquired Logicor from Blackstone for nearly $14 billion, could also make an offer, sources speculate. Amazon, of course, is a wild card in the industry that could affect any deals.
